Versions are used in Bibble 5 to represent your images and Master Files.  When you make edits and image adjustments in Bibble 5, you are creating and editing Versions, not the original Master File.  This allows you to make many different versions from a single Master File, and allows you to copy a single version to many places without needing to duplicate the original Master File, thus saving disk storage space.

Versions of the same Master File will share the same content and will usually be shown in a Stack together, but all other settings and options can be different, allowing you to make different interpretations, crops or other image adjustments to each Version.  Versions maintain their own Edit History, and can each be assigned unique Metadata.  The settings for all versions from a single Master File are stored inside a single Bibble 5 XMP file.

Many operations are possible with Versions, and many of these are available on the Context Menu, found by Right-Clicking on a thumbnail and selecting the 'Version' menu option:

Creating Versions

Bibble 5 will automatically create a Master Version for each Master File in the folder you are viewing in Bibble.  You can make additional Versions by:

Right-Clicking an existing Version, select 'Version' from the Context Menu, then select one of the following:

New Version from Current - creates a new version with the same settings as the selected Version's current settings
New Version from Master - creates a new version with the same settings as the Master Version's current settings
New Version from Import -  creates a new version with the same settings that the selected Version had when it was imported
New Version from Defaults -  creates a new version with the default image settings for this type of image.  See the topic on Default Settings for additional details

Note: When Multi-View is enabled, only the single Active Version will be duplicated, not the every version selected.

Deleting Versions

Deleting a Version from Bibble 5 will remove the settings and adjustments made to that version, and will remove that version from display in Bibble 5.  If the Version you are deleting is a Master Version, then Bibble will delete the Master File also, after displaying a confirmation message.  See the topics on deleting Versions from Catalogs or in File System Mode for details.
