There are several ways to add keywords to your images, but the primary way is through the Keyword Tool on the Tool Panel.

Keyword Tool

This tool shows all Keywords assigned to the Active Version, and allows you to add or remove Keywords from all selected images.

NOTE: Adding or removing Keywords from the Keywords tool affects all selected images, while the Keywords displayed in the tool reflect only the Active Version, unless when in Multi-View.

The Keyword Hierarchy separator is the semi-colon ";".

Keyword Sets

This tool provides a fast and easy way to assign Keywords to you photos.  You can groups similar keywords together in a Set, and show that Set in the Keyword Sets tool.  Keywords within a Keyword Set can come from anywhere in you Keyword Hierarchy.  So, you could make a Keyword Set that included your family members that went the vacation that you photographed, and could also include landmark and location names, and other subject matter relating to that shoot.  Then, quickly switch to your 'Wedding' Keyword Set that contains the keywords you typically assign to wedding shots: Bride, Groom, Cake, Reception, Flowers, etc.

This provides a fast, flexible way to quickly assign relevant keywords to large numbers of images.

Assigning Keywords

You can assign Keywords to all selected Versions by any of the following actions:

Clicking on a Keyword in the Keyword Sets tool
Pressing the Hotkey associated with the Keyword

Removing Keywords

You can remove Keywords from all selected Versions by:

CTRL+Clicking on a Keyword in the Keyword Sets tool

Managing Keywords

Click the Manage button in the lower corner of the Keyword Sets tool to open the Keyword Manager.  This is where you assign Keywords to Sets, assign Hotkeys to Keywords and to Keyword Sets, as well as other Keyword Management tasks.

Multiple Keyword Sets

You can have multiple Keyword Sets that you can quickly switch between, which greatly speeds adding keyword to your photos.  You can have one Set for vacation photos that include terms like "landscape", "beach" and "urban", then another Set could include the names of your clients, friends or family.  A third Set could contain photographic genre or categories like "Sepia", "Black & White", and "High Key".

Changing Keyword Sets

Each Keyword Set can be assigned a Hotkey; pressing the hotkey for a Set changes the Keyword Sets tool to show the keywords that are in the Set you selected.

Or, you can select the Set from the dropdown box on the Header of the Keyword Sets Tool.

Managing Keywords and Keyword Sets

The Keyword Manager is used to add new keywords to your catalog, rename or remove keywords, and to assign keywords to Keyword Sets.  Open the Keyword Manager by clicking on the Manage button on the Keyword Sets Tool on the Metadata Tab.

The Keyword Manager is divided into two portions: the left lists all Keywords in your Keyword Sets manager, grouped into hierarchies, and the right shows all Keyword Sets and the Keywords that belong to those sets.

Adding Keywords

There are two buttons at the bottom left of the Keyword Manager to add new Keywords.  The first plus button plus adds a new Keyword just below the currently selected Keyword.  If no Keyword is selected, the new Keyword is added at the end of the list.

The double-plus button plus-plus adds a new Keyword as a child of the currently selected Keyword.  The double-plus button is disabled if no Keyword is selected.

Removing Keywords

The third button at the bottom left is minus1 which will remove the selected Keyword from your Catalog.

Moving Keywords

To move a Keyword to a new parent, or to move a Keyword up or down in the Keyword hierarchy, simply select the Keyword you want to move, and drag it to its desired location.

You can select and drag keywords from multiple locations to a single new location to move many keywords at once.

Note: Since all keywords at a specific level in your hierarchy must be unique, Bibble disallows dropping a keyword at the same level as same name as a currently existing keyword

Renaming a Keyword

To rename or change the spelling of a keyword, double-click in the Keyword area of the Keyword Manager on the keyword you wish to change.

Or, you can Right-Click within the Keyword Sets Tool and select 'Rename'.

Adding Keyword Sets

Just like adding Keywords, you can create a new Keyword Set by clicking the plus plus button under the Keyword Set section of the Keyword Manager.

Or, you can use the context menu accessed by right-clicking (Command-clicking on a Mac) inside the right panel.

Removing Keyword Sets

Remove the currently selected Keyword Set by pressing the minus minus1 button.

Assigning Keywords to Sets

Select the Keyword you want to add in the left panel, and drag it onto the Keyword Set you want in the right panel.

Removing Keywords from Sets

In the right panel, select the Keyword that you want to remove from under the Keyword Set, then press the minus minus1 button below the right panel.

Reordering Keywords in Sets

The order of the Keywords in the Keyword Sets panel corresponds to the order they will appear in the Keyword Set Tool, and thus corresponds to the hotkey that will be assigned to the Keywords.  Use the up and down buttons between the panels to move the Keyword you have selected up or down in the list.

Assigning Hot Keys to Keywords and Keyword Sets

You can assign a keyboard Hot Key to Keyword Sets or directly to Keywords to allow you to quickly assign Keywords to the Selected Versions or to quickly switch to a specific Keyword Set.  To assign a Hot Key to a Keyword or Keyword Set, click that Keyword or Set in the right panel of the Keyword Manager, and click in the Hot Key cell to the right of the Keyword Entry.  Press a key or key combination, like ALT+K to assign that key or key combination to the selected Keyword.  If that key combination is already assigned to another Keyword or function in Bibble 5, you will be alerted and the new Hot Key will not be saved.  Open the Hot Key editor to remove or change that key combination from the existing function to continue.
